In Borderlands 3 there are numerous weapon slots to unlock throughout the course of the game. Unlocking all four slots allows you to carry and switch between different types of weapons more quickly instead of having to head into the character menu and switch them out.

To unlock the fourth weapon slot in Borderlands 3 you will need to progress through the story. Once you’ve completed Beneath the Meridian you’ll have the fourth weapon slot. You should complete this around level 20. Completing this much of the game will take some time, but there are numerous things you can do to level up quickly like tackling side missions, killing all enemies in the open world, and doing main story missions.

You can constantly track your progress via the level bar at the bottom of the screen. It will always show you how far you have to go to the next level and when you have skill points available to use.
